MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The ordinary me-fing of the Council was held at the Couicil Chambers, Town Hall on Thursday, Die sth iast. Present —his Worship the Mayor, Crs. Dillon, Craig, jNcwmavch, and Brookes. JtrNUTES. After discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Or. Ciiaio, seconded by Cr. Dillon, and carried by the casting vote of the Chairman—" That the minutes of the 2'ltli August last, and subsequent minutes, be passed, as amended." Noes—Crs. JVewmarch and Brookes. COHRESVONDENCE. Copy of letter to Mr. Walter Inder, informing him that the Albion Brewing Company's tender to rcrjfc the inner celloV of the Town Hall for twelve months at £lO was accepted. Letter read and received from Mr. de Lautour, M.H.K. (addressed to the Mayor), in reply to a letter forwarded to iiiin, and signed by Crs. Brookes, Newmavch, ltowlatt, George, and Dillon, requesting to be supplied with copies of letters and telegrams sent by the Mayor to Mr. de Lautour, regarding the extension of the town bound-,ries, and also the alienation of twelve and a halt acres of land within the town, wlm-hhc (the Mayor) had failed to show to the Council. In reference to the above letter the Mayor produced and read a telegram, dated 9th September, ,j from Mr. de Lautour (which the Mayor said had been mislaid), recommending application to Provincial Government to ex- • tend th* boundaries, and secure twelve arid a half acres of land as endowment to the Corporation, which could not bo done alter the abolition of Provinces. Letter read and received from Messrs. .Jacob and Clancy, calling attention to the fact that there is now no road to their residences, and requesting the Council to devise some means to remedy their grievances. Committee, to report. a, Letter read and received from Mr. John Hore, complaining of the encroachment on his property occasioned by tailings from Jioach's Gully» which in the event of a flood would cause him serious damage.—Referred to General Purposes Committee* Letter read'and received from auditors; slating that they had examined the books and vouchers of the Corporation, compared them with bank-book, and found the san.e correct; at the same time suggested that a better system of ledger-keeping he adopted, in order to,show more clearly the financial position6t tho Corporation.. SrOTICKS Of? MOTION. By Cr. Cjiaig- (stb September)—" To procure tn es, and have them planted round the cricket ground ; also, seeds for hedge."— At Cr. Ckaio's request the motion was -withdrawn, as the season was now too far advanced. •By Or. JN ewma ncn, seconded by Cr. Beookes —"That,the minutes, as taken by tho Town Clerk, be read over and signed by tho Chairman immediately after each meeting." By Cr. ■Gborgk (in the absence of Cr.

George, from illness), Cr. Brookes took up the notice, which was seconded by Cr. Ckaig, and lost by the casting vote of the Chairman—" That all goods required by the Corporation of Naseby, such as- kerosene lamps, lamp glasses, wicks, sweeping brooms, shovels, and other tools, be purchased at wholesale 'price* ; and that, if the storekeepers will not tender for the necessary supplies, they be o/dered from some Dunedin merchant. By Cr. Geoege (in his absence Cr. Newiiarch took up the notice) —" That the scale of charges for use of the Town Hall be revised, as in many cases when, let the amount received by the Corporation docs not pay for lighting and cleaning." Seconded by Cr. Dillon, and lost by the casting vote of the Chairman. By Cr. George. In his absence, Cr. Newmakch proposed, seconded by Cr. Beookes, and lost by the casting vote of the Chairman—" That the hour of meeting of Councillors be four o'clock in the afternoon, instead of as it is at present, 8.30 p.m." By Cr. Rowlatt. In his absence Cr. Bbookes moved, seconded by Cr. Newmarch and carried—"That a lamp bo erected in South Ward, opposite the Church of England." Ayes—Crs. Brookes, Newmarch, and Dillon; no—Cr. Craig. ADJOURNMENT* At 11 p.m., on the motion of. Cr. Beookes, the meeting adjourned till next day (Friday) at 8.30.

ADJOURNED MEETING. Oct. 6th. Present—his Worship the Mayor, Crs. Brookes, Dillon, Newmarch, and Craig, when the following accounts, recommended by the Finanee Committee,, were passed for payment.:—Auditors, £4 45.; collector, £7' 12«.; Fire Brigade, 15s. 6d.; James Brown, £?; Town Clerk, £5 ; John Martin, labor, 10s; James Sandow, labor, 10s; Secretary Fire Brigade, three months' salary, £3.
