Eight Hon. the Secretary of State for the Colonies, London. I dutifully refer to my letter of the sth June last. The Government have determined to enforce th<s Abolition Act ■without, consulting the Provincial LegislaKnd'dfgauist the'vv'ish of Provinces containing nioro than one-half of the white population of tlie Colony, and two-thirds of the natives are included Disturbances are imminent, aud some threaten the employment of thQ„Qu,acm.'s„ ships. I eirneatly pray you telegraph to prevent disturbance. Tho Abolition Act should bo disallowed if Provincial Legislatures are not consulted. G. Grey, Superintendent of Auckland." Tub usual meeting of the Mount Ida District Hospital Committee was held on Friday evening last. Present: -Messrs. Robineon (president), Anderson, Jackson, Gordon, J. Brown, A. M'G. Brown. Geo?■./•: and Horswell. The minutes of previous meetings were confirmed. The Surgeon's reports for August and September were read. In the month of August 2 patients were admitted, 2 discharged, and % remained. In September, 4 •were admitted, 3 discharged, 1 died, and 3 remained in Hospital. The Visiting Committee reported that they visited tal on several occasions during the last two months, and found everything in good order. Th _ patients also expressed themselves highly si'itisH.cd as to comfort and attention. The Committee suggested that a skillion should bo erected for the stove. The Treasurer reported as follows :—Balance, £152 19s; accounts passed tor payment for quarter £155 fis. lOd ; subsidy due from Government, £25 17s. 4d ; overdraft, £2 Gs. lOd. The Visiting Committee for current month are Messrs. Indcr, Gordon, and Jackson. Resolved— That the .Secretary write to Mr. J. Martin, loader of tho Naseby Brass Band, asking the band's assistance in getting up an entertainment in aid of the Hospital Funds ; also, that the Secretary ask the Dramatic Club to give a performance. It was agreed to write to the following gentlemen for their assistance viz:—Messrs. Pylo, Campbell, Holland, Nettlefold and Cormick.
