Interim Secretary : Mr E T George The object which the promoters of this Association have in view is to establish in Mount Ida a General Store and Bakery, to be worked entirely on the co-operative principle, and to provide provisions at the lowest possible working prices. The fact that—in a small community like that of Mount Ida, where, provisions are so exceptionally high—the public have never as yet availed themselves of the advantages of the co-operative system, is a matter of surprise. ' The fluctuations, of wages, which, of late years especially, have been while the prices of pro vision*, &c, have-uniformly been kept at the same figure,, would indicate, apart from any other consideration, the desirability of economising in every shape and form. The pecuniary/advantages to be derived from participation in a well-managed co-ope-rative system are considerable. . It is proposed to raise a capital of two thousand pounds, in one thousand shares of two pounds each; and, in order to bring the shares within the reach of all classes, the subscriptions to be made payable in calls of not moi'e than two shillings and sixpence per share, at intervals of riot less. than, one month, notice of whioh will be given. The promoters fully rely on the success of ; the project forthe following, amongst other 1 reasons:—The shareholders will naturally, as a rule, be regular customers at. their own establishment. • The shareholders, by"' their votes, being able to control the management, can always ensure promptitude and efficiency in the execution of orders. ! The Cash -Principle to be rigidly adIhered to, in order to secure the discounts on 'purchases in the best markets, as well as • perfect safety in selling. And in order that the interests of the shareholders should be thoroughly looked after, the professional services of experienced accountants to be engaged to supervise the books ,at any time the shareholders may appoint. It is proposed to.lease suitable premises in a central position, and to commence operations with the least possible delay. Applications for shares to be made to 'the Secretary, Earn-street, Naseby, at whose office the list will be open until the 31st inst. Maximum number of shares of any shareholder— bwenty.
