Interim Secretary : Mr E T George The object which the- promoters of this Association have in view is to establish an Mount Ida a General Store and Bakery, to be. worked entirely on the co-operative principle, and to provide provisions at the possible working prices. ' The fact that—in a small community like that of Mount Ida, where provisions , are so exceptionally high— the public have' never as yet availed themselves of the advantages of the co-operative system, is a matter of surprise. The fluctuations of wages, which, bf late years especially, have been declining, while the prices of provision*, &c., have uniformly been kept at the same figure, would indicate, apart from any other consideration, the desirabttity of economising in every shape and forni. . The pecuniary, advantages to be derived from participation in a well-managed co-ope-rative system' are considerable. It is 'proposed' to raise a capital of two thousand " pounds, in one thousand shares of two pounds each; and, in Order to bring the shai-es within the reach of all classes, the subscriptions to be made payable in calls of not ifiore thari'two shiFings and sixpence per share, at intervals of not less than one month, notice of whi.ih will be given. : The promoters fully rely: oil the success of the project for the following, amongst'other reasons:—The shareholders will naturally, as a rule, be regular customers at their own establishment. The shareholders, by their votes, being able to control the management, can always ensure promptitude and efficiency in the execution of orders. The Cash Principle to. ne rigidly adhered to/ in-ord'er'to, secure the discounts on' purchases in the best markets, as well,as perfect safety in selling. And in order that the interests of the shareholders should be thoroughly looked after, the professional services of experienced accountants to bo engaged to supervise the books at any time the shareholders may appoint. j It is proposed to lease suitable premises in a central position, and to commence operations with the least possible delay. Applications for shares to be made to ..the Secretary, Earn-street, Naseby, at whose office the list will, be open until the 31st inst.. Maximum number of shares of any shareholder—iwenty.
