MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting wa3 held on tho 27th July, at the Council Chambers, Town Hall. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. George, Craig, Newmarch, and Greer. ' The minutes of tho last meeting were read,and confirmed. The Town Ci-erk reported that he had that day received from the Valuators tho Assessment Book for year 1876-7, which was signed and allowed by the Mayor, and the required notice was directed to be given.

CORRESPONDENCE. Copy of letter to Assessors, with instructions as to the valuation of property within the Municipality. Letter from Mr. George Stephens read and received, enclosing account for £lO lGs. lO^d. —Resolved, on the motion of Cr. Geoege—"That the account, as rendered, be not entertained."

BEPOBT., ; The General Purposes Committee's report in reference to footpaths, and approach to bridge-crossing Roach's' Gully, /and pointing out certain work required to be done by persons having culverts crossing' the main road, was adopted, on the motion of Cr. Ceaig. DOGS AND «OATS. The Town Ci/3EK read and laid on the table a return asked for by Cr. Chaig, showing the number of dogs and goats registered to date. Registered' by Town Clerk—dogs, 25; goats, 8. Registered by Inspector—dogs, 5; goats, 6. Resolved—" That the Inspector of Nuisance's attention be called to the number of unregistered dogs and goats within the Municipality. WATEB WOEKB. _ The notice of motion by Cr. Geoege, at his request, was allowed to stand over till next meeting. FINANCE. Accounts amounting, to £lls were passed for payment. £IOO of this. was carried to the credit of the Sinking Fund. COIiPJUIIEN'rABY ADX>EESS. , Tho Mayoe, said that this was the last meetingof the present Council, and that before parting he was anxious to acknowledge the kind and courteous treatment ho had received from all the Councillors during his three years' tenure of office.
