NOTES FROM ST. BATHANS.

June 22. A great deal has been said during the past week or two concerning the treatment received by >be UDforluoafe man M : Master at the iiands of the Hospital au'iho?ites, and which is far from being satisfactorily exp'ained by the letter in your columns last week, signed by the president, su ,- geon, and secretary respectively of ihe.institution, in reply to your outspoken statement in the previous issue. Even admitiiog that M'Master had every attention paid hi a* while iu the Hospital, bu! this the so called explanation certainly does not prove. JJoihing can justify the action of the management at the closing scene of iois irau's life.. That a patient dying in the Hospital should be buried without even a semblance of religious ceremony, apparently because destitute and a comparative stranger, is a disgrace to any professedly civilised community, and the scoutr stepa are taken La prerent a recurrence of the like the better. In contradiV-incliun to the above leiters have been received here from Mr. Wilkes, also an inmate of the Hospital, in which he expresses himself well satisfied with the attention paid him. He is recovering, and will probably leave the institution during the wee'k.

A few pounds have ben contributed by residents in the neighborhood to effect some necessary repairs to the. road between this place and Cambrian., which, if judiciously expended, will prove of great benefit to travellers. Does any one know when the long-pro-mised foot-bridge over the M.anuherikia River is to be ereeied? Truly the conduct of the Government iu this matter has been most vacillating. A concert and dance is announced for Tuesday eveuina;,-July 4th,- in aid of the* National School fund, und as every effort is'being rnid j f <"> rpnd-T i* » ori.ceess. it is to be hoped a cuunjief huuse will he ihe resold''' A "''-''' —'•'■ - ■■"■'■-' '-.-*
