MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting was held on the Ist June, at the Council Chambers, Town Hall. Present—his Worship the Mayor, Crs. George, Newmarch, Craig, Greer, and llowlatt. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter read and received from Flannagan and M'Grath, asking for six months' further time to make good the road washed away by them.—Granted, oil the motion of Cr. Newmarch, subject to tho terms of former agreement. Letter from Mr. Samuel Baxter, Secretary pro. tem. Fire Brigade, recommending James Donnelly to be appointed Secretary and Gearman.—Approved. Lotter from Messrs. Chapman and Doherty, asking permission to keep pigstyes. — Beferred to Inspector of Nuisances to report. Letter read and received from the Naseby Cricket Club, stating (among other things) that the Club consists of over thirty members, themajority of whom are influential ratepayers, and being aware that the municipal revenue for the present year will be absorbed in the carrying out of necessary works, the Club is prepared to temporarily find ways and means for the erection of o fence round the Recreation Reserve, to be approved by the Council —tho estimated expenditure being £3O. The Club also submitted that the permanent enclosure of the Eecreation Reserve with a neat and substantial fence —which in itself is an ornament to the town —cannot fail to be beneficial to the municipal interest.

EECREATION RESERVE. Resolved, on the motion of Cr; Rowlatt —"That the Naseby Cricket Club be authorised to fence in the Eecreation Heserve at once, in the manner proposed. That the Cricket Club shall have at all times the first right to tho use of the ground, but when not needed by the Club the Council may authorise any person or persons to use the ground, so long as no damage is done to the same. The Council shall, before or after the expiration of two years from this date, take over the fence, and sole management and control of the ground, on payment to the Club of a sum not exceeding £3O, being the estimated cost of the fence.

FINANCE. The Town. Clerk read and laid on the table a detailed statement of receipts and expenditure for the last month.
