STATISTICS, 1875, EESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COUET, MOUNT IDA. From the elaborate and carefully compiled returns furnished by the officers of the Court to the Government we are enabled to plaee before our readers a statement showing the business transacted during the year. We are glad to note that the criminal business has been, of a veij light kind, for so large a district. v At ISaseby 87 persons were taken into custody, summoned or apprehended. Of these 18 were charged with breach of the Municipal byelaw.,, and 24 with being drunk aad disorderly. Of the 45 cases remaining to be accounted for 11 were for common assault, 1 for cruelty to animals, 6 for unlawful gaining, 5 for breach of the licensing laws, 6 for vagrancy, jrai 6 for using threatening language. Of the few cases remaining of a lighter character 1 was a charge of lunacy, 2 were for furious riding, 1 for larceny, and 2 were informations for sureties of the peace. The more serious cases only amounted to 3—l summarily convicted for embezzlement, 1 committed for trial for forgery (and convicted), 1 summari'y convicted for larceny. Of these cases 23 were dismissed. On the civil side of the Naseby Court 116 cases were heard. £1394 15s. was sued for, and £863 Os. Bid recovered. At St. Bath an 9 5 persons were apprebended for xsiiior offences——4 being sumxnarily convicled andjfined, and one being dismissed; thus showing that St. Eathans is probably, for i£s extent, the most orderly township in the Province. On the Civil side, 26 cases were heard, £384 ss. was sued for, and £139 7s. lOd. recovered. At Serpentine there was no business of *ny kind. Happy Serpentine ! At Hamilton one person was summoned for a breach of the Dog Registration Ordinance, but the prosecution broke down. There was no civil business. At Hyde one case was heard, being an alleged breach of the Master and Servants Act, but dismissed. On the civil side, 10 cases were disposed of. £206 13s. Bd. was sued for, and £76 7s. 6d. recovered. At Macraes 7 persons were apprehended. One serious charge of attempted rape was dismissed The remaining 6 cases were for minor offences only. On the civil side 22 cases tvere heard. £lO5 was sued for, and £24 Bs. lid. recovered.
