Beg to inform the residents of Mount Ida and surrounding districts, that having purchased those large and commodious premises, corner of Castle and- Stuart Streets, opposite the Gttol, they intend to carry on the above business in all its various branches, and having ! had long practical experience, .they trust, by strict attention, and charging only the lowest remunerative prices, to merit a fair share of public patronage. They are also prepared to supply and fit up Electbic Belis on the most approved principles. Mr. B. Cowan having-devoted much of his time and attention for some years to the system of Electric Bells, and having contracted for and fitted up many large buildings in Scotland, he has been able to make considerable improvements in the various apparatus and material employed. These Bells are specially adapted for use in public buildings, manufactories, hotels, warehouses, mansion houses, lodge gates, stables, &c. The advantages gained from these Bells are as follows :—First, no cranks being used, and no pulling required, there is no danger of their getting out of order, as with ordinary bells : Second, they can be attached to doors, safes, &c, giving an alarm in case of burglary, and can also be employed to give alarm in case of fire : Third, they are perfectly noiseless in their action, and distance is no object.: Fourth, they can be introduced into finished apartments, without interfering in the least with the papering or painting, as the insulated wire can be made to match any color: Fifth, the eventual cost of supplying a house with these Bells is considerably less than the ordinary system, owing to the great saving in repairs, as when once properly fixed in position, they do not require to be disturbed again—no rip> ping up of walls and floors being required. This system can also be used for communicating between one part of a ship and another. R. Cow an & Co. are also prepared to supply and fit up communication between Polios, Fire, and Railway Stations, the various departments of Manufacturing and Mercantile Establishments, Mansions, and Outbuildings, &c, &c.
