Mr. It. Cowan having devot.ed much of his time and attention for someyeare to the System'of Electric Bells, and haying contracted for and fitted up many large buildings in Scotland, he has been able to r make considerable improvements in the various apparatus and material employed. These Bells are specially adapted for use in public buildings, manufactories,' hotels, warehouses, mansion' house's, lodge gates, stables; &c. T The advantages gained from these Bells are as follows : —First, no cranks being 'used, and no pulling required, 'there is" no' danger" of their getting out of. order, as with ordinary bells : Second, they can be attached to doors, safes, &c., giving an alarm in case of burglary, and can also be employed to givealarm in case of fire : Third, they are perfectly noiseless in their action, and distance is no object.: Fourth, they; can be introduced into finished apartments, without interfering in the least with the papering or painting, as the insulated wire can be made to match any color: Fifth, the eventual cost of supplying, a house with these Bells is considerably less than the ordinary system, owing to the great saving in repairs, as when once properly fixed in position, they do not require to be disturbed again—no ripping up of walls and floors ..being required. This system can also be used for communicating between one part of a ship and another. R.
