THE ELECTIONS. For the North-Eaatern Maori District Karatana is strongly opposed by Honei, a Government supporter. Ross election—Tribe (old member), 174 ; Conniskey, 47. The only return from Waikaia ia from Roxburgh— Ireland, 45; Baitings, 63. This being Ireland's stronghold, Bastings' return is considered safe.
Arrived at Lyttelton the Orari, from London. f l'he Hon. John Hall is among the passengers. All the bumble bees shipped died. The Presbyterian Synod, it is expected, will reject the overture re instrumental music. A man has been arrested in Wellington on suspicion of being Cunningham, the Lake Ohou murderer. He tallies exactly with the description of the latter. He gives a very unsatisfactory account of himself.
