MOUNT IDA DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
,| 4^NUAL MEETING. < The annual meeting of subscribers was held at the schoolhouse, Naseby, .on Thursday, evening, the 14th instant. .The President, H. W.'llobinson, Esq., took the chair.
The Chaibuan said the' nieeting was called to accept the resignation of the outgoing Committee, and Appoint members for 1870. The first business would be to receive the reports of the Commit' tee and Surgeon. The Committee's report was then read:
The Committee of ManagementoftheMount Ida District Hospital for the year 1875 beg to lay before tha subscribers their report. In resigning into the hands of the subscribers the trust confided to them on the 4th January, 1875, they beg to report that they found the institution in fair working order when they took eharge, • • The fever ward, which had been commenced at the time of their appointment, has been finished, and made ready for the reception of patients. They have however to congratulate the inhabitants of the district that up to the present the building has not been required. The Reservoir, which was also in progress, has long since been completed, and arranger ments nave been made with the Hit or Miss Company for an ample Bupply of pure water for all purposes.
A quantity of forest trees and shrubs have been received from the Government, which have been planted. The garden .is fully cropped with all kinds of vegetables* and the committee consider great credit due to the Wardaman for his exertions in getting into and keeping same in such good order. Your Committee found that the drainage required their attention, and hare pipes laid from both buildings, emptying into lower race.
At the commencement of your Committees term there were five patients in the house. There have been admitted and treated daring the year 33 patients, discharged cured 33, relieved 3, died 1, and remaining in the house 1. Of this number 17 were in-paying patients, 15 destitute in-patients, anal outdoor, patient.
The surgeon's report will afford information as to disease, &c. The. financial condition of the institution is on the whole satisfactory, although at one time your Committee found themselves short of funds.- A special appeal was made to the public, which was met in a most liberal manner.
In taking over the trust your Committee found a credit balance of £293 3s. Bd., which, with £lB5 14s. 9d. subsidy due by the Government, made the total £478 18s. sd. They beg to call your attention to the fact that although the balance in hand is considerablyjless that when they took office, itmust be taken into consideration that the fever ward had been commenced. The whole of the cost for that, the reservoir, extra fencing, and other necessary improvements has been paid during the past year—amounting to nearly £4OO. In November last the surgeon, Dr. Whitton, tendered his resignation, but we are happy to say your Committee have made arrangements with him to continue in charge of the institution for another year. Your Committee have held 15 meetings during the year—viz., 12 monthly, and 3 special, at which the attendance has been pretty regular.
The District Committee and Collectors have rendered valuable service in raising funds during the year. Your committee have also to thank those ladies and gentlemen who have so kindly contributed their services at the various entertainments given in aid of the funds. In conclusion, your committee have to express their thanks to the subscribers for the confidence reposed in them, and their hope that means may still be forthcoming for the further improvement of the institution.
After the report was read the Chairman announced that he had now merely to ank the meeting to accept theresignation of the Committee, and to join with them in their good wish for the general welfare of the institution.
Mr. M'lntosh begged to propose that the report bo adopted, and that the thanks of the subscribers bo accorded to the Committee for their past exertions. Mr. B. Gobdon seconded the motion, which was carried.
The names of the members elected for the Naseby and District Committees were published in our last week's issue.
Mr. db Ijautoue proposed a special vote of thanks to Mr. H. W. Robinson for his very successful efforts to raise money ior the institution during the year by delivering a scries of lectures throughout the district, and in otherwise urging the claims of tho hospital. Mr. M'lntosh seconded the motion, which was carried with acclamation.
The balance-sheet for the year, which had been prepared with great care, shewed that the receipts from all sources —including a balance brought to credit January, 1876—had been £1163 13s. Id., while the Government subsidy due was £144 2s. 6d. The expenditure for the year had been £lOlB 14s. 7d., which includes £398 Is. Bd. expended upon permanent buildings and improvements. The total cash assets in hand are £289 Is. The returns—which, according to Government requirement have been made quarterly, were clear and explicit. The surgeon's report showed that there had been very little sickness during the year. The cases reported were satisfactorily 'accounted for. During the year 38 patients had been under treatment. Of these 33 had been cured, 3 relieved, 1 died, and 1 remained under treatment. There had been 3 cases of fracture only, and 5 of contusions. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business. f
