POLITICAL MEETINGS.
Ma. Hebtslet has been prosecuting the electoral campaign during laat week in the Hamilton and Hyde districts. Mr. waswell received and patiently listened to wherever he went. He is travelling on the "other side of the district while we write, and is to speak at Naseby on Saturday. ' ' • Mb. E. A. Chapman last week visited Blackstone Hill, Cambrian, and St. Bathans. We have no information beyond the allusions made by our correspondents elsewhere. _—■—-«•►-——■. .-, Mb. dk Lautoub addressed a large-au-dience at Naseby on Wednesday evening. His Worship was voted to the chair. After re-stating his views as reported at Hamilton in November, and at Naseby later and shewing these, to be in entire unison with the stand taken by Messrs. Macandrew, Stout, Kolleston, and others on the hustings since, he went at length into the land .question. .What was said will be seen in the. supplementary sheet accompanying this paper. The meeting was a warm one. At the conclusion of the address questions were put by Mr. Gordon in reference to tW Legislative Council, Mr. Bowlatt as to the. personal of the alleged paid or unpaid agents in Mr. Chapman's interest, by Mr. Brookes, in reference to the public works and the best mode of extending the Channel, by Mr. Shannon and Mr. Rowlatt, on the Naseby residence area question. The several answers given appeared to satisfy the questioners. Mr. B. Gordon proposed a vote of confidence in Mr. de Lautour. Mr. Shannon proposed as an amendment "that this meeting pledge itself to act as a joint Committee to secure Mr. do Lautour s roturn/' Mr.; Gordon' withdrew his motion. Mr. Dillon seconded Mr. Shannon's motion., Three gentlen.en left the room. .The Chairman put the motion. One hand was held up against. Mr. de Lautour thanked them all. He did not wish a pledge from them, and he was sure that the owner of the one negative hand would work the hardest for him at the poll. The meeting then broke up with a vote to,the" Chair.
