ELECTION GOSSIP.
(Clippings.) The forthcoming elections are exciting a great deal of interest in various parts .of the Colony, and there seems every probability of numerous candidates coining forward. The lion. E. .Kichard§on, E. J. C. Stevens, and S. P. Andrews have announced themselves as candidates for the three Christchurch seats. Messrs. Bluett, Wasou, Enys, Jebson, and .George Holmes, juii., ai'6 caauidui6<s for'.Coleridge (one seat). Sir Cracroft Wilson' will stand for re-election for Keathcol'e, where, he will probably be opposed by VV. Montgomery, who it is rumored <loea not intend to offer himself again for' the district of Akaroa. The Hon. Cl* C. Boweu is reported to have the intention of standing for Akaroa instead of Kaiapoi, where Mr. Beswick, his old opponent, appears to have" gained strength lately by the accession of some of Bowen's Provincialist supporters. G. B. Parker intends to visit England, and will no.t therefore seek re-election for the Gladstone district. W. S. Moorhouse is to be the candidate for the vacancy, and there are no signs of an opposition. ' The Hon. ; E; W. Stafford will again seek to represent Timaru,. and Mr. akefield,' editor of the ' Timaru Herald', intends offerings himself for the new. seat for that town. 'Dr. Kayner will oppose him, and a warm contest is expected. The ' Inangahua Times ' says:—"Mr. Harrison, who has hitherto regarded ths representation of that const&feuetrcy j as a sort of divine right vested in himself, will be sure to " run." Mr. Heber Newtod, of Greymouth, is also spoken of as a candidate, and it is not unlikely that Mr. A. Reid, also of Greymouth, will be invited to take the field. In addition to these names there are others mentioned, but with uncertainty." Sir Julius Yogel is spoken of as being nominated for the Thames or for Wanganui, in both of which districts he would probably be returned. Mr. Stout, addresses the: Caversham electors this day (Friday), and will no doubt state liis 'intentions. Mr.. G. M'Lean will shortly address the Waikouaiti constituency. -It is understood he will be very strongly opposed by Mr. Rich. If so, the tables will probably be turned. Eor Dunedin, Messrs. Eish, Davie, J. H. Harris, G. E. Barton (if not for Waikai), and E. B. Cargill are probable candidates, all with about equal chances of sucess. It is not thoughtthat either Mr. Reynoldsor Mr. Wales will be nominated. Mr. Macassey is mentioned for Wakatipu. Candidates are a little sly of declaring themselves in Otago. In Canterbury and Auckland the reverse is the case.
