The jury added a rider commending the warder for his action. The Legislative Council, by 23 to 4, carried the second reading of the Abolition Bill Sir George Grey's Bill for abolishing the duties on tea, coffee, sugar, and flour was strongly opposed by the Government, and was rejected by 41 against 15. -- At the inquest on the body of the child found in a sugar bag, in the Water of Leith, on Ist October, a verdict of "found dead" was returned. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court were concluded to-day. Alfred Hutchcson, alias German Charlie, for larceny, was sentenced to three years; Eobert Hunter, arson, six months; Richard Beattie, assault with intent, acquitted; Anne Hardy, larceny, three years; Thomas White, larceny, three years; Alfred Goodal 1 , larceny, twelvemonths; A ndrewCaldwell, embezzlement (two charges), six years; Michael Golding, larceny, two years. It is understood that Parliament will be prorogued on the twentieth instant. Twelve special jury cases are set down for hearing at the civil sittings of the Supreme Court, commencing on Monday.
