GOLD-SAVING APPARATUS.

It will be remembered that at thu last.session of thaProvincial Council,-" as* a means of stimulating' inventions of Gold-Saving Apparatus the sum of £250 was Toted, to be offered as a bonus, for tbs invention of sucli an apparatus, and through the public press plans and proposals were invited. A number of 7 plans were accordingly sent to the Government, arid yesterday, the 23ri inst., in the Athenaeum, Clyde, was-fixed upon to decide as to which (if any) was entitled to the bonua. The gentlemen appointed to undertake the onerons' duty were Mr. Ewing, (Chairman of the Otago Central Mining Association) ; and Messrs. Crombie, • of G-. 33. Douglas, of Bendigo ; Mr. Shnanon, of Naseby ; Mr. \ Greenbank, of Drybvead; Mr; Purton, of Sty Bathans j Mr. M; Kett, of Alexandra. With the exception p| two last,wlibse absence was explained, the whole met, and accompanied by D. M'Kellar, Esq., Goldfields Secretary 3 and W. Li Siinpson* Esq., "Warden, proceeded to their' work; Mr. Simpson having been' appointed Chairman, and Mr. Ewing, Secretory, Mr.- • M'Kellar ; opened the proceedings by explaining the rote, and then- laid on the table the plans received as .followsfromMr. W. Green, of Pomahaka, a. working model also accompanied this; from Alexander Mills, Hampden ; from. C. Reisler, Queenstown ; from A. Keene, Naseby; and J. H. Doidger, Grahamstown. Each plan having been discussed, and high encomiums passed on some for the highly finished manner they were prepared, the Coinmission came" to the unanimous conclusion :—" That none of the plans came within the conditions, and consequently hot entitled to the bonus," a sort of rider being added that most of the principles submitted were in use. — c Dunstan Times/
