MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The first meeting of the new Council waa held at the Council Chamber, Town Hall, on \V ednesday the (11th instant. Present —his Worship the Mayor, Crs. Rowlatt, George, Craig, Brookes, Greer, and Newmareh. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Mayob, on taking the chair, said that he was proud of the honor conferred upon him by re-election to the office, and promised <to give his best attention and ability to the duties devolving upon him. He felt assured that, the new Council would work as harmoniously as the last—Mr. George being a great acquisition, and would nb doubt prove himself 10 be a valuable member in the finance department. The principal business was the appointment of COMMITTEES FOE THE YEAH. The following were appointed Einance—Crs. G-eorge, Brookes, and Craig. General Purposes—Crs. Greer, George, and Brookes. Sanitary—Cra. Newmareh, Craig, and Greer. Town Hall—Crs. George, Greer, and Brookes. ' ' FINANCE.. No accounts were passed for payment, as no Committee was in existence. All accounts stand, over .till next ordinary meeting. NOTICES OP MOTION. By Cr. Rowlatt, " What sum has been expended on the main road since the grant by the Government, and what balance, if any, remains." Also, "What sum during the last year has been set apart-as a'contribution to the sinking fund for the debt on the Town Hall." ,/
