The Town Clerk read and J aid' upon the table a detailed statement: of the receipts and expenditure for the fyilf-year ending 30th June last. ■ - . r .• . _ ' M ; The Finance Committee (CrSiHjorring,.Craig, and Inder)' reported that they had examined the books, and goiie through the accounts of the Corporation - for the ; half- r ■year ending- 30th June last; and foundthat the" receipts ; " and"' disbursements for that; period corresponded with the bankbook; also, that.they -had carefully estimated the;' probable incanie and expenditure forthe current year (a detailed stater ment of'which was attached to the report), by which it was shown that the outstand- : ing accounts and liabilities for ..the year amounted to about £844, •- and the pro-' bable revenue from licenses, rent; &c., will ; realise, about. £534, leaving a deficiency of £320, to meet which the Committee;recommend that a rate be struck of one shilling and sixpence in the £l. based on the- last assessment of £14220, which assessment no appeal was lodged. The report also stated, that, notwithstanding the cost of the Town Hall having ex-
c eeded- the estimate, the Committer were of opinion—after taking into consideration the saving jof rent of oflfices|necessafy, i e., £26 a year, formerly paid to Mr. George, and the amount likely to be realised for the use of the Town Hall for public convenience—that the same will fully pay the interest on the loan, and, subject to that liability (£IOOO only), the Town Hall, : i i f 6e comparatively oat-' of debt. . .
