ELECTION OF COUNCILLORS.
A wonderful amount of excitement was prevalent in the town of JStasebv oti Monday last;'the day appointed for the election of councillors for the "West and South Wards. Mr. Hjorring, formerly representing the South Ward, was a, candidate for the West Ward, being opposed by Mr. E. T. George. For the South Ward Mr. W. Inder,. formerly representing the West Ward, but now without qualification in that ward,was a candidate and was .opposed by Mr. (x. E. liowlatt. In both cases the old cbuncillors were defeated. Whether it: was the Is. 63. rate 'that did it, or the bajl, or . a mere'Jovej of. change, we do not know ; certainly the ratepayers were determined- Brpbably, as Mr. Inder intimated, a good deal of misunderstanding influenced the v electors in one at least of the two 'Wards.
