Resolved, That the Visiting Committee and President be empowered to carry out the alteration in making the large ward more comfortable. Some other business of trifling importance was transacted. A meeting of the Committee of the local Mining Association took place at the Council Chambers on the evening of Monday last, j Mr'. Shannon in the chair. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward &nd inward correspondence was read. Resolved, That a memorial to the i Waste Land Bdafd be drawn up for signature, expressive of approval of the action taken by the Cdmmittee in the matter of the objections to the sale of certain residence areas. Resolved, That a memorial be prepared for signature, requesting the Warden to declare that portion of the Mount Ida district not already declared open, to be occupied as claims of one acre for each holder of a miner's right. Resolved, That a memorial be prepared for asking the Supertendent to amend section 0, of regulation 26, of the Goldfields Rules and Regulations, so as to make it read as follows:—"A copy of every notice given in conformity with these regulations shall be kept for reference at the Warden's Office during the currency of such notice, and an abstract showing the name of applicant, the nature of the ground applied for,. the locality where situate, and the day appointed for the hearing of the same, and if any objection thereto, shall be kept posted and maintained in some conspicuous part of the Court House for general information." The Education Ordinance, -;/hich has been talked of for some time, has now been, definitely framed. The pith of the Ordinance is in clauses 3 and 4 : —" 5. In the event of Any School Committee in any year finding that the amount at its disposal arising from school fees subscriptions donations and sums appropriated by the Provincial Council is inadequate to meet the expenditure required to be •made by such School Committee for educational purposes it shall be lawful for such Committee with the consent of the Education Board to raise'- and levy all moneys required by an annual general rate equally upon all rateable property within the educational district of such School Committee: Provided that no such general rate shalTin any year exceed ■■ the amount of threepence in the pound of the full nett value of such property. 4. All lands tenements and hereditaments rateable under the " Otagb Roads Ordinance i Amendment Ordinance 1872 " or under any Act or Ordinance which may hereafter be in force for defining or specifying property rateable for the purposes of district road boards within the Province of Otago and no other j shall be rateable propeity within the meaning of this Ordinance." The Committees are Ito be invested with all the powers at present ienjeyed by Road Boards.
