: The Queenstown Corporation appears to bf in difficulties. We extract the following from the;' WakatipMail' .:-■—■,-' - --ACCOUNTS. ... _....,; ; With regard to Mr. M'Gregor's applicationJbr payment, "" ; The Mayor thought Mr. M'Gregor had been very lenient. The Council was not .in a position-at present to pay,'and he thought it would be best to write a letter to Mr. M'Gregor; & thanking >him for his courtesy, and asking him to wait until the Assembly met (when an Act would be brought up to obtain power to raise a loan), interestih the. meantime to be allowed. •: j Some of the Councillors thought applicant would be very weirpaid without interest being added. X*. was also stated that the Council would soon be in funds, as, publicans' annual licenses and a good amount of rates would shortly bVpaid." r ;: .; j : Cr. Cash thought" the Council, .would have plenty t6; do'with this mbney 1 without paying-such accounts'with : it/' : ! Finally,'the-Clerk was ordered to write "a letter: to .Mr. M'Gregor, asking:him to wait a_little longer,;&c., and offering,.bank interest. ;..',;.•
| Mr; Warren's account for printing 'arid advertising, jg22 2s. 9d. (chiefly an old outstanding account) was brought up.v., ■ = bank -had: recently; requested; payment of overdraft, : and had moreover given notice that they would not allow any further increase, it was l considered there was no use ' in passing any accounts, for payment. ~ ■ : The Mayor—Have youpaidany-money into the.bank lately, Mr v Boult? ~ ~,.',;•. | The Town- Clerk ( facetiously)—-Not at present, your Worship,;.! am keeping the money back :to. pay. my Mr. Boult afterwards stated that he had paid some money in notes into the bank lately : ; but, had he been aware of the unfortunate fix, he might :hav'e not done so. : ;'
The amount was then ordered to be paid as soori;as r the Conncil was in a position to do so."
• Mr. G ; B. Barton's (solicitor) account was ordered "to stand"'over' J fbr examination, by the Finance Committee, as it was not correct, some of the items charged having been already paid.
