To the District Land Oflircr at Naseby: I HEREBY GUVE NOTICE that I intend to construct a Water Baca for Irrigation, Farming, and Doraestio Purposes, on Mr. Main's run (205), Hyde, commencing at a point at Coal Creek, Two Hundred Yards above tlio Shepherd's Stone Hut on the bri- • die track leading to Taiori Lake Home Station, and terminating at Section 15, Block 11., Township of Hydo. The length of such water race is one mile -and a half or theroabouts, and its intended ►course is north-east, and it will pass through a •portion of the said run and the paddock of Dowling, thereon situate. Bonus for gold-saving APPARATUS.—The Provincial l Coun- > ■ cil of Otago being desirous of stimulating indention, and securing the use of gold-saving • apparatus'in connection with hydraulic mia-; ing udapted'to the purpose of extracting goldl from auriferous earth more completely than any of the machines or methods at present in übo, has voted the sum of £250, to be offered as a bonus for tlio invention of such an appar•ntus, subject to snch competition and regulations as to his Honor tho Superintendent may seem fit.
Notice is hereby given in accordanco with ' the vote of tho Council, that plans and proposals for such nn apparatus will be received ' for consideration, up till the first clay of August next dialling. The following particulars aro published for the information of intending - exhibitors of plans. Tlio plans and proposals will te submitted to a body of judges, composed of experienced miners, and such other porsons as his Honor the Superintendent may appoint, and in considering thorn the following points •will be kept in view: 1. Tho cost of tho apparatus as it appears ■ 011' tho plan, and its portable cost, and tear and wear. 2. Tho readiness with which it can be so- ■ oured in any part of a tail race, and bo moved :.i'rom one part to another and again secured. 3. Its adaptability to the different widths and falls of fcailrnces used in different districts; ■ to the varying quantities of water used either by choice or necessity for flushing tlicr samo ; and to the different (kinds of wash-dirt from whicli gold is obtained in the 'Province. Inventors are oxpected to be conversant with the mad linos and methods at present in use, and not to offer simple reproductions of ithe same/ Thoy are also expected not to offer _ reproductions of machines or methods - whioU have falldn into dißuse. They can obtain practical information on these and other points, by application through tlio post to the iCentral Mining Association at Naseby. If, in the opinion of tho judges appointed, ■any plnn shall appeur to be worthy of adoption by the miners in this Province, tho Go- • vernment undertakes to furnish copies of tho •same to each of tho Mining Associations in tho Provinco with full instructions as to intentions of the inventors, and.the payment of tho bonus will then be determined in the following manner, payment being duo within ■eight mouths from the date nfc which the copies) of tho plans nnd instructions have been , issued to the various Mining Associations : By tho fact of the apparatus being used by at least fcwcnty-fivo sluicing companies in Ino Provinco, employing nn avernge of at least five mem ench, for the period of six months, and tho intontiou of the samo com > panics to continue tho rise thereof; such fact, ;ftud_*uch intonliyn being verified by the ufiirxnation before a Warden, of the Managers or •representatives of buoli Oompaniofl.
