NASEBY (LOCAL) MINING ASSOCIATION.

A special meeting of the Committee of this Association took place at the Council Hall on the evening of Thursday last. Present—Messrs. Shannon (chair), Webb°i', Flynn, Leys, Moore, Woodhill, and Hertslet (Secretary). The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

PURPOSE OF-MEETING. The Chairman said that the present special meeting had been called for the purpose of considering several matters of importance to-the mining interest of the district. The first of these was the election of officers for the ensuing year; next the action which it would be advisable for the Committee to take in the matter of Mr. Hugh Wilson's application to purchase his residence area; and also another matter of still greater and graver importance to the interest of the .entire community—lie alluded to the very unsatisfactory manner in which the public works (from which so_ much benefit was anticipated) were being carried out. The head race was still very far from being completed, though the contract time had long since expired. Even at the present time a large amount of water from side streams could be made available, if not directly for mining purposes at least for staunching the race. _ Many miners had lately returned to this_ district in the expectation of finding water, but, being disappointed, had been compelled to leave again and seek employment elsewhere. He thought therefore that it was* the-duty of the Committee to draw the attention of ~the Government this matter, and to urgeupon them the importance and necessity'of having the works pushed forward with all possible speed. . ELECTION OE OFFICERS. Resolved, That Mr. Shannon be permanent Chairman ; that Mr. Hertslet act as Secretary; and that Mr. John Stewart be elected a member of this Committee, vice Mr. Thomas Jackson, who is unable to act. mr. "Wilson's application. Resolved, with regard to Mr. Wilson's application to purchase his residence area, That the Secretary call the attention of the vVaste Land Board to the fact that the ground applied for is auriferous, and will be worked when the channel is completed. That the granting of ■ this application would establish a very dangerous precedent, and wbuld render liable to be closed against the miner some fifty acres of what is believed to be the best ground in the Hogburn, as it would be unfair to refuse other applications .to purchase residence areag should the present be entertained. - AGItICULTTTIIAL BLOCK. .Resolved, That this Commitlee cordially approve.', the' ; agricultural'block : recommended -by the. Sub-Committee of the Progress; Committee, as containing Ijind of superior quality, and being in no way likely to interfere with mining, and that the Secretary write accordingly to the Government. • ■ DISTRICT LAND BOAHD. Resolved, That,. in.the opinion of this Committee, it is absolutely necessary that a practical miner be appointed a member of the District Land Board, to advise the Board on all matters likely to affect the mining interest, and that a copy of; this resolution be forwarded to the proper quarter. ' DAT OE MEETING-. Resolved, That from this date the usual monthly meetings of the Committee be held on the first Monday of each month, iri lieu of the last Wednesday, as heretofore.

CLOSE. A vote of thanks to the Chair terminated the proceedings. ''•
