MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

An adjourned meeting was held on Thursday, 11th iast., at the Council Chambers, Town Hali. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Newmarch, Brookes, Greer, and Craig. CORRESPONDENCE —INWARD.

Letter from Under-Secretary, in reply to I own Clerk's, stating that the Government is willing to subsidise the erection of a more permanent bridge than the one recently: washed away crossing the Dead Level tail race, at the foot of the hill, on the main road into ISTaseby. at the rate of £ for £, provided it is carried out by the Provincial Engineer; and that the Extended Company be requested to deposit a suni, to be agreed upon by the Council, sufficient to carry out the work-requited to be done.

The Inspector of Nuisances, amongst other things, reported that he had, in obedience to instructions, made a thorough inspection of the town, and had given notice to several person who had unclean back premises, which, in all cases, were promptly attended to ; that, he had warned all persons having pigstyes that they must make fresh application to the Counsil for permission to keep the same. Tie also called attention to ths necessity of some place being erected where stray cattle and horses wandering about the town at night could be confined, which would- enable him to find out their owners.

The General Purposes Committee's report was postponed until next meeting. A discussion took place in reference to the charges for the use of the Town Hall, when it was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Craig—" That the Committee be requested to prepare a scale of charges for letting the Town Hall, and submit the same to the next meeting for approval." FINANCE. The following accounts were passed for paymentM ossman, labor and lamplighting, £9 155.; W. Duncan, labor, 255.; W. Jacob, on account Town Hall, £BO.
