-During the interview with the deputation, Sir George Grey said the whole question of constitutional reform opened up many larger pointstbantheabolifcion question would raise. He doubted very much whether, in the Colonies possessing a responsible Government, the office of iiesident Governor was either useful or lieved it would be infinitely better if each Colony hau the power of electing one of their foremost citizens to reside in London as Secretary of State for the Colony, with the privilege of anviginf her Majesty on all questions affecting the Colony. In that way an avc.nue to great political destinations would be opened to Colonial statesmen, while the Home authorities would ,be far more .correctly advised on Colonial questions; and the conned ion of the Colonies with, tho Mother Country would be made pemanont and secures, i He had always nut forth this view, and was much pleased to see that it had been favorably entertained by Color ial institutes at rfome, only hue member opposing it.
