MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting was held in, the Council Chambers, Town Hall, on Wednesday evening last. Present—his Worship the Mayor, Crs Inder, Brookes, ifewmarch, Greer, and Craig. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. COEKESPONDEA'CE—OUTWABD,. Copy of letter to Provincial Secretary, urging the necessity of erecting a bridge across the Dead Level tail race at the foot of the hill on the main road to the town ; copy of letter to hon. Secretary, Presbyterian Church Committee, in reference to the making of road on the west side of the Church copy of letter to Manager Homeward Bound Company, enclosing extract from _ report of General Purposes Committee, in reference to the work, required to be done in making good the road along side the schoolhouse ; copy letter to Resident Magistrate, requesting that the moneys due to the Corporation. for conviction under the byelaws be paid-, to the Town Clerk ; copy letter to In-' spector of Nuisances, calling his immediate attention to the state and condition of all pigstyes, and to report generally as to the sanitary condition of the town. IK WARD: Letters from Messrs. George, and Indcr, requesting permission to keep pigstj es on their premises.—A good deal of discussion took place as to the propriety of gran ting permission to keep pigstyes in tho town. Several Councillors were of opinion that the garbage arid oilier matter which pigs consume would be more annoying arid injurious if al-;, lowed to rot than would be occasioned by:: a well-kept pigstye, subject to Byelaw X, and. under the control of the Town Inspector.
