(To the Editor of the MoUHT Id*. Ohbonicus.) - Sludge Channel Works, February 4, 1875. Sib, —We are much surprised to hear that it has been asserted in Naseby that we have refused to employ any of the miners on our contract, but we hereby wish publicly to state that it is a groundless falsehood, and it must have been said by some ill-disposed persons; or otherwise by some indolent person that prefers stopping idle about the town, instead of working a fair day's work for a fair day's Eay. Instead of refusing to employ, we ave publicly advertised for 100 men, and frequently of late we have spoken to different parties, who we knew were idle, to come and work on the following conditions, namely : 9s. per day, and to be allowed to come one day and go another—or, in fact, any way that would suit to work in with their mining operations, and, when there, not to be asked to do any more work than the Chinese, who are satisfied to work for Bs. per day. As the work is now within two and a half miles of Naseby, we think there is no difficulty in the way at present for all who vfish to earn an honest living. By inserting this, you will oblige. -We are, &c., Johm & Joseph Cbbiqhxox.
