Notices TO THE ELECTORS -M 0 TIN T -I D A DISTR IG T. ";'j" ..•_> .... ;■„■■.- IN compliance requests from many of the inhabitants of Naseby and District, I have agreed to come forward and seek election at your hands as" your representative in the Provincial Council. I find the time is too.short for me to visit you all, but I am satisfied that;' from what'you" know of me, and from, what -you .) will learn from those who know : me well, you will believe that if I have the abihty I will represent you honestly in the Council. Mv claims for your support are chiefly that I am and have been connected with Mining in all its branches for many years,: also with farming to some extent. I have lately taken contracts on the Public Works of Mount Ida—the whole of which I have managed profitably to myself and to all connected therewith. I am, therefore, in a position to know the difficulties to be surmounted in these matters from every cause, but more especially from faulty legislation ; and will be able to advise and assist your present -member in rectifying many matters which, under present circumstances, are a source of division and heartburning in the various mining districts between the parties -representing, the Mining, Farming, and Squatting industries.. I am strongly of opinion that matters could be arranged so that'all would benefit, and none suffer, if better explained and understood. >• '/•';. I should, as a matter of dutyy second the 'efforts so ably made by your present member to have the interests of the District attended to in every form; believing that the opening up a new country by good roads or railways, and giving facilities for settlement, is the sure way to make the country great and prosperous—-not spending the whole revenue in and about the coast line where a good water way is available, and on that ground alone consider my claim on your votes superior to that of any Dunedin cindidate. I have further to state that I am of the opinion that Mr. de Lautour has been working hard for the interests of. the district; and, being of that opinion, would, ably second him, if not in cases take the lead. Ido .not, however, .think that either Armstrong or Leary would work with the same harmony, both being resident in Dunedin, and subject to Dunedin influences—which proved almost too much for our late respected member, Mr. Oliver. Indeed, so far it is reported'that it has been stated openly by Mr. de Lautour that, should Mr. Leary be returned by a majority of the electors of district, in accordance with the views exnrp.RßP.rl in Tiir moAtinff n.-h'Nn.ao'K-v ftliovKMnff so opposite to his own and Mr. Olivers), he would feel it his duty to his usefulness would be gone. Mr. Armstrong, we all know, doubtless is willing to do what he can for the district; but, as a matter of fact, knows nothing of oar wants, and cares less to inform himself. The other candidate has some claims, being like myself a practical miner; but I feel assured-his chances are hopeless, and therefore I come and ask you, one and ell, to vote forme. lam a arare of strong opposition being made to my return, bufrlet' every one see for themselves where the same comes from, and they will be satiiK fied that my interests and that of the electors are identical. Do not be blind! -There are various questions I might touch upon. A great many are of so great importance that it is merely clap-trap to mention "them,.;- requiring . speedy settlement, ' say, Gold. Duty Reduction, Settlement of Water Rights, Opening of Lands, and other, matters which have been before the councils of the country So often, and so often defeatecl for want of proper and.practical. representation: but which have had my full consideration. •--■■'-■• •.; I am, Gentlemen, \ , ■■"-.'■''■ his ': "/ Your ohedieiit servant, ■ "■- ''•'-» ;"- : ;';?':/-£j;"' 'Mic&ELJDiLLdK:.'
