THE COMING ELECTION.
(To tlie 'Editor of the Mount Ida Chkokicle ) Sir, —I would impress upon the electors the necessity of taking a retrospective giance at the past, and say if the requirements of the district have been bet-
fer attended to by Dunklin men thaii" bv ! local representation P ami ask themselves why should we not return another local nianP I particularly refer to Mr. H. J. Sproule, who, it was rumored, would likely stand if supported. I consider we cannot get a better man outside tKe district. If Mr. Sproule is returned, and pays the same attention, and works as successfully as he "does at present in the profession he so creditably follows, I think the electors of Mount Ida would have no reason to regret their choice. Mr. Sproule has been well known by hundreds in the district for many years, both in Victoria and New Zealand, and bas gained the good wishes of the inhabitants not only for his gentlemanly deportment, but for his high scientific attainments. I consider Mr. Sproule is well worth a trial. He is far superior in point of intelligence to any of the Dunedin aspirants. His chief interests are in the district, where he has made his home. It is very strange how the compassionate blood of our would-be Dunedin friends boils at every election. Listen to how they proclaim our grievances, and bow willing they are to remedy them. Naseby electors, beware of such "Yankee blowing ! " Could the transit of Venus have anythingtodo with theirproffessions? But no! Venus has not been crossing the sun's disc at every election these last eight years. Such men want to make us the stepping-stones to thoir profit. We should not go outside the district while we .have an experienced gentleman*of Mr. Sproule's abilities in it. Being a resident of this district for the last ten years, I presume I am entitled to raise my voice to assist if possible my fellow miners in their choice.- I am, &c, .-.';■' Electob. [This letter having ; come in Thursday, rather than omit it, according to our rule, we have given as much of it as our space will allow.—Ed. M.1.0.]
