_ We learn that eleven men, "with four families—including sixteen children', the eldest: being only thirteen years of age—have, arrived in waggons, with tents—the men to> work on the Head Race. How in the world are the men to work all day, and yet look after and house these poor women and children ? It seems monstrous-to send families up to districts where tlie climate is, at intervals, so severe, to take their - chance in tents—a life that the hardiest, men cannot stand for any time without showing bad, effects afterwards. Talk, indeed, about cruelty to animals! What about cruelty to human, -beings?
