HYDE.

(From a correspondent.)

The Progress "Committee are working very hard for the benefit, not only of Hyde, but of the district. They are now in communication with the Government regarding-the erection of a light traffic bridge (at Mardling's Perry) on" the Taieri, for which the sum of £2OOO was Tot.ed by the Council. The miners are busy just now, there ■being an abundant supply of water. The farmers are also busy getting in their'crops.' I believe all the oats are now in the ground. We are anxiously looking forward to the, sale of the township, when a nurhber of town sections will be bought, and new 'buildings erected. ' Hearing that the School Committee had asked our esteemed Warden, H. A. Stratford, Esq., to deliver a lecture on behalf, of the school, we looked forward to a treat, knowing that gentleman's ability, and popularity as a lecturer. But we were much disappointed on hearing that the Secretary of,the School Committee had received a reply, very little hope for the delivery of a lecture. We all feel very sorry, and regret much taat- such- is' the case. I may say that Mr; Stratford is much respected here : in the more we know of him, the better .We like him. But particularly we admire the good:order and regularity of business in the Court where he presides. When he leaves'the' district, he will' carry with him the best wishes of the inhabitants of Hyde.
