Police v. Janet Watson. —For being drunk and disorderly. Pined £l, or 48 hours'imprisonment. Same v. Same.; —For vagrancy. To be imprisoned-in JNaseby gaol for 14 days, with .hard labor To lake effect after the expiration of the first sentence. September 3. (Before H. A. Stratford, Esq., B.M-, and W. Grumitt, Esq., J P.) Anthony Blanchard v. Margaret Sharindecent and obscene language and insulting words in a public thoroughfare at Kyeburn Diggings towards Mary Ann Blanchard.

Margaret Sharkey . was defended by Mr. -Rowlatt, who consented-to an amendment asked for by the informant that the name of Mary Ann Robinson should be substituted for Mary Blanchard on the face of the information.

Mary Ann Robinson, on being sworn, stated that on' the 22nd August Mrs. Sharkey came to her door and called out a number of offensive, names. Under cross-examination she admitted that her name was Robinson, 'although she was called Blanchard;: that she was. not married to Blanchard, but lived with .him. She also stated that the Maerewhenua track was close to the* house.

Pauline Minet deposed on oath that she heard Mrs. Sharkey, from the' outside ,of Blanchard's house, on tho 22nd Augusts call Mary Ann Robinson some offensive names ;. that the latter was in bed at the time, and did not get up. Pined £2, or in default, 14 days' imprisonment. . i Margaret Sharkey v. Mary Ann Eobinson.—For .-abusive and insulting, language. Margaret Sharkey stated, ion oath, that on the 22nd August she went .to Blanchard's house to ask Mary.Ann Hobinson to stop the talk that she and Mrs. Minet were having about herself; that she stood about four yards off the house when speaking ; and.that Mary Ann : . .Robinson came to the door in a yellow print dress; that she knew she had been recently confined, but had seen her up since her confinement ; that defendant' came out ■ with a stick in her hand, calling her offensive names, and saying she would break *ier back with a stick ; that on the afternoon of the same day she was on "a hill about fcwenty'yards" off Blanchard's 1 house calling her child; that she saw Mrs. Minet coming she could not have heard what she said. She had not been-friendly for some time,with Mrs. Blanchard.

In examination by the Court she stated that the house was 'about four or five yards off the Maerewhenua track, and that aho thought it was between ten and eleven o'clock when she went to defendant's:house.

For the defence Pauline Minet stated that it was two o'clock on the same day that sho saw Mrs.-Sharkey and-her little girl near Blanchard's- house;-" that the witness was approaching the house at'the time ; heard Mrs. Sharkey use offensive words ; that she. entered into the house and found Mary Ann Robinson in bed ; that Mrs. Sharkey was looking into the window; and that, when Mary Ann Robinson complained to witness of Mrs. Sharkey's conduct, she.replied "take no notice of it."* Case., dismissed. Mr. Rowlatt for informant.

A.. Blanchard y, Margaret Sharkey,--Wilfully and obscenely exposing Iter person. This cage was heard- with closed doors. Mr. Jdiowlatt" appeared for the defence. The defendant was sentenced to 14 days'; imprisonment, in Naseby gaol,-with-hard labor, and order;: dto pay Anthony, Blanchard £3 16s. 6d.— costs and expenses of himself and witnesses. ■
