(From our own correspondent.) T*> - Dunedin, Thursday' Evening. David Hunter, contractor for the Waitaki Bridge, was drowned at the works yesterday.' The body has been recovered. • A man named Charles Burgess was drowned near Anderson's Bay on Monday evening. Deceased was seen walking alone on the new *road, under the influence of drink, a few minutes before. A verdict of- "'accidentally drowned" was returned. ' -'

, There was a sharp discussion, when the mi.nnt.es read, at the meeting of the Waste Land i Board yesterday, between Harris and the Chief "Commisfioner. The former complained' that the minute refusing Donald and Mathe" l son's application was not a truthful record of what took place, and said that if members of the Board 'examined it, they would see that', an interlineation had been made, which would effectually weaken his clients' case He also objected'to the confirmation of (he minutes. He was supported by Strode and Butterwovtli; while Clark agreed with, the Commissioner. The minutes were confirmed by the casting vote of fhe Commissioner. Harris obtained leave to submit the case -to the Supreme Court, through the Board. An attempt was made - yesterday to serve a detainer on the ship.MUtiadesinßan.gitoto Channel, while she'was going out. The detainer issued from the-Admiralty Court, at the suit of the crew of the-Lady Bowen for salvage; but the crew, of/the Miltiadcs threatened violence to the officer of the Court if he attempted to board the vessel.
