ARROW MINERS' ASSOCIATION.
An extraordinary meeting of this bodywas held on Saturday, 22nd instant, fertile purpose of considering the circular of the Central .Executive, referring to theidea of Mr. Vogel, lately thrown out by him—viz., to place the Goldfields under • a similar system of management to that of Immigration. The Committee were of the unanimousopinion that the Goldfields would be better managed if under the control of the General Government than, as at present* under the Provincial Executive. Almost every speaker illustrated his arguments by references to the. refusal of Mining Boards by the Otago Executive. A. letter was read from the Central: Treasurer, promising the support of the Otago Miners' Association in the proposed Art Union for the Miners' Institute. •A vote 1 of thanks to the chair .concluded; the proceedings. - There will be some among our (' NewZealand Times') readers, no doubt, who will remember the well-known C. E. Jones, a member of the Victorian Assembly, and at one time Commissioner of" It ail ways. He was undoubtedly an able man, but somewhat unscrupulous, and ultimately was expelled from the Parliament of Victoria. He went to San Francisco, from thence to* Utah, where he sojourned for a while, passing on thence . to New York... It appears that he is engaged now.as "one"of the exponents olßar-. num's great show business, and is highly appreciated by the King .of Charltans. An amusing incident which gave rise to a.hearty laugh in the House took plade the other" night. Mr. Shepherd was making, a speech, and had occasion to refer to Mr. Fitzherl-ert. He turned round and addressed his "honorable friend," who was sitting alone on the "back bench," but his honorable friend" gave no-sign of recognition, and sat like Patience on a monument smiling at grief. The perfect immobility of face was irresistible.—' Welling, ton Tribune.' » -"'
