LATEST PARLIAMENTARY.
(From our own correspondent). Wellington, Friday, 8 p.m. Tt is believed that the determination of tlieOtago members to give almost a block vote against the proposal greatly influenced the Government's decision not to bring down this' session a Bill to abolish the North Island Provinces. It is said that forty-three would have supported the Government if it had 5 gone to a division.
Great progress made with Bills last night. The session will terminate in less than a fortnight. The following is the recommendation of theGoldfielda Committee re Shepherd's Mining. Bill No. 2:—" It is urgently necessary thatthere be legislation in view of disposing of thepresent difficulty of using waters and streams for mining purposes. The clause, as printed, leaving a discretionary power to the Governor,, will meet the case; and they recognise the necessity of immediately dealing with the matter, and recommend that the provision: proposed by the Bill be made law this ses---sion."
