MINING ASSOCIATION.
The adjourned meeting of the Committee was held on Monday evening last at Mr. Busch's residence. Present—The Chairman, Messrs. Webber, Moore, Jackson, and the Secretary. The minutes of the last meetings were read and confirmed. COBIiiiHPONDENOE. —INWABD :
Letter from the Under-Secretary, enclosing copy of a letter from the Honorable the Colonial Secretary, writing to his Honor the Superintendent, expressing regret that the Government could not authorise additional expenditure in deepening the Sludge Channel at Naseby, owing to the funds at its disposal being nearly exhausted. —The Secbetaby stated that, in consequence of the receipt of the above letter late on the evening of Wednesday last, he early the next morning consulted with Mr. de Lautour, M.P.C., as to what steps should be taken in tho matter, when it was determined to send a telegram immediately to the Premier (which was published in a recent issue) urging a reconsideration. It had been proved that 'jjj-fl Channel would be of little or no good brought up at the present level, and it was at the same time deemed advisable that the Mayor should call a public meeting for the following Saturday evening, for the purpose of expressing opinion in this important matter.
Letter from Mr. Joseph Packman, stating that it was his intention to apply to purchase ten or twelve feet of ground along the boundary south of his section, facing Roach's Gully, as he intended to build an arcade stable, and asked the Committee to inspect the ground previous to application. —After consideaable discussion, the Secretary was instructed to ask Mr. Packman to peg ofF the ground required, when the Committee would in- ' spect, and report upon the same at next meeting. Letter from Messrs. Gillespie and Stewart, stating that they had, at the reguest of the Committee, prospected the ♦ground on which Mr. Hugh Wilson had lately erected a dwelling, next Mr. E. T. George's garden. They reported that they iiad sunk and bottomed two hole; in front of the house, 10 feet 6 inches deep, and one at the back, the same depth. From the prospects washed, they considered that the gronud could not be made to pay with free water ; in fact, they had never prospected poorer ground inNaseby. Mr. Jackson stated that he had, in company with Mr. Shannon, tried a prospect from the diijt on the top of the holes, which lie considered payabh , and that he did not believe one hole was bottomed. It was eventually agreed to refer the matter to the next meeting, for further consideration. APPLICATION FOE SALE OF LAND. The Secretary was instructed to write to the District Land officer, objecting (in the name of the Association, to the sale of
land applied for by Dugald Sinclair in Roach's Gnlly. DESIGNATION OF CHAIBMAN. The Secebtaby read a letter from Mr. C. F. Roberts, tendering his resignation of the office of Chairman, in consequence of his present occupation preventing him attending to the duties. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Jackson, that Mr. Roberts' resignation be accepted, and that the thanks of the Association be tendered to him for his services. After the usual vote of thanks to Mr. Busch, the meeting closed.
