THE LICENSING ORDINANCE.

The Licensing Ordinance, 1865, Amendment Ordinance, 1874, now before the Provincial Council, provides as fallows —ln addition to the licenses specified in the sixth section of the Licensing Ordinance, 1865, licenses to be called "refreshment—room licenses" may be granted, and such licenses, shall be in force from the. time of granting the same until the 30th day of June next ensuing and no longer, and the annual fee payable in re. speet of every such license shall be £ls. Every such license shall authorise the holder thereof to sell and dispose of alcoholic liquors by the-glass in the house or on the premises therein specified, and to be drunk in or upon such house or premises ; and no person holding such a license shall sell or supply alcoholic liquors, or suffer the same to lie drunk in or upon his house or premises, except between the hours of six in the morning and eight at night. It shall not be necessary or required that any house or premises for which a refresh-ment-room license shall be applied for or granted shall contain any sitting rooms or any sleeping rooms for public accommodation ; nor shall it be necessary that any such premises should be provide! with stabling accommodation. Applications for such licenses shall be made in manner provided by the Licensing Act, 1873, for applying for wholesale license, and such licenses may be transferred, and otherwise disposed of and dealt With jn the sane minner and to the same extent as general licenses granted under the Licensing Ordinance, 18(35, may be transferred, disposed of and dealt with. And whereas no meeting of the Licensing Court constituted under the provisions of the Licensing Act. 1873, can be held before the third Tuesday in the month of April, 1875, and as it is expedient th-it temporary provision should be made for the granting of refreshment-room licenses, it is therefore hereby enacted that it shall bo lawful for the Superintendent,: .with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, at anv time after the passing of this Ordinance, and before the 31st day of December, 1874 , to grant certificates authorising the Provincial Treasurer to issue such licenses. to be in force until the 30th day of June,: 1875, and no longer.—' Guardian.'
