BLACK STONE HILL.
The long wished for break' has come. Hme s weather is very. enjoyable, but too mucA of it is anything but profitable to mining. Scnrrity-of water ought to be no longer a drawback. The machinery, &c, of the quartz reefs, Kough llidge—late Energetic Company—have been purchased by }!>. E. A. "Withers. From his long connection he oucdit to be a good .jud<re of tht» paving capacity of the reefs ; and, with local" manacre»ent and discretion, will doubtless be able to demonstrate it. The school is now opened—the attendance as yet being but small. As the district is such a scattered one (many of the children having to travel /bur and fivemiles ,to school) a full attendence cannot be •expected until after winter. The. Rev. J. M'Cosh Smith conducted Divine service here on Sunday last, ad.ministering also the rite of baptism, 'it is a pity the rev. gentleman cannot let us have the benefit of his ministrations more frequently, as a service alternately with that of the Eev. E. Williams is to be de.«. sired.
