' h u find and thoughtful sits a maiden, , .''Vorjior peacblesa breast is'laden .. ' ti ' ' .With the wish for news of one - whose memory makes the teardrop spring. ■ ,' - .. So she watches where the sun is filling "on a ■, distant soil—■,. . , . .'.,;',"' Whore,the scattered sea-spray, drifts and tos- , sbs in the summer gale, * " ,''*,<.' ■ ',, And her girlish heart is throbbing,"_.,, ' ~ ■ ■Like'the cold wavo's ceaseless sobbing, 0 t for weary youth and beauty—Raiting', waiting for tho Mail! Let us track the steps so longed for, o'er the parched Australian plain— ; ; ' Mark tho spot that heard the raving ■ deathcalls of his thirsty pain ! See the ironbarlc, unnltered, , '--< v. Shedi its leaves wore footsteps faltered— Tootfalls thnt shall never greet tho-watqh'ful glance of Lovo again 1 ; •' When wild drpams of brattling creeks thrust in his ears their phantom tones, : - ( JTero he fell, and clutched for .water at the burning sand and stones ," "- ~ '>•' Till the tortured spirit wrestled Forth its flight—then 'possums nestled ✓ In the branches, shyly wondering at the heap of brightening bones 1 ' There he sleeps—and mouldering rags are •■ wasting in the heated gale— i ,' .
