MUNICIPAL COUNCIL. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Saseby Town Council was held on Wednesday evening last in the Council Cham« bers, Present —his Worship the Mayor, and Crs. de Lautour, Craig, Brookes, Wilson, Tnder, and Hjorring. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

Letter from Under-Secretary, in reply to Town Clerk's, in reference" to the discontinuance of the boring operations, stating that the Provincial Geologist will visit the district in due course.

Letter from Under-Secretary, stating that the necessary instructions had been given for the survey of the land at the back of front sections 103 to 134, and also at the junction of Foyle and Tay-streets. The question of reservation of the other lands alluded to in the correspondence had been deferred for further consideration.

Letter from Under-Secretary, in reply to Town Clerk's, stating that all fines inflicted under the Corporation Bye-Laws, and the Municipal Corporations Act, 1867, should be paid over by the Clerk to the Resident Magistrate's Court to the Corporation, Letter from D. Boss, Dunedin, with full particulars as to composition of cement for building, and asking to be supplied with further information, to enable him to send comparison of cost of a building suitable for Town Hall.

Letter from Clerk to Resident Magistrate's Court, stating that at present no fines had been inflicted under the ByeLaws, or the Municipal Corporations Act, 1867.

Letters were received from Megsrg. J. and R. Breroner, R. Glenn, E, Horswell, E. T. George, and A. Costelloe, asking permission of Council to retain their verandahs, porches, &c. VEBAKDAHS AND POBCHES. Cr. de Lautotte proposed, and Cr. Beookes seconded —" That Messrs. J. and R. Bremner be informed that, there being no immediate pressure of traffic by their premises, they will be permitted to allow the same to remain during the pleasure of the Council; but that the hotel porches be in all cases removed, or extended to the present kerbing, the owners being informed of the same." Carried. Mr. Costelloe's application to allow ladder to remain was refused, Mr. Glenn's application to extend Ha buildings to present line of verandah was postponed for further information. Mr. Brookes' application to allow verandah to remain was agreed to during the pleasure of the Council. THE BECBEATIQK GEOtrXD. Or. j>e Latttotte proposed, seconded by Cr, Ceaio—" That the Mining Association be requested to report to the Council whether the Cricket Ground—palled the Recreation Beserve-—is of such value to mining industry as to make it inadvisable for it to be vested in the Corporation of £Taseby as a permanent and ornamental pleasure ground ? " Carried.

BI.OCS: O? IAJJJ) FOE HU>-DEED. Cr. pb Latjtotte proposed, and Cr. Indee seconded—" That the Council form a deputation to wait upon the members of the Provincial Executive for the purpose of obtaining a definite promise of a block of land being thrown open as a hundred, with a portion reserved for sale on deferred payments; and also, if possible, at the same time to secure a grazing right for the inhabitants of the district, other than those who make a living by owning stock." Carried.

SLUDGE CHAXXEL. Cr. Bbqokes proposed, and ,Cr. HjobEiNQ seconded—" That the Council form themselves into a deputation to wait upon the Secretary of the Goldfields" relative to the line to be taken, and the approximate depth of the Sludge Channel, and that the Miners' Association be requested to appoint sis gentlemen to attend the deputation." Carried.

ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment: Moeller, £2; "Wilson and do liautour, printing and advertising, £lO 15s. 6d.; J. and 8,. Bremner, Ss.; J. Co*, gan, Kyebarn road, contract, £9 15s. The Council then adjourned.

HAMILTON".—Dec. 15. Wabdex"s Cottet. (Before H. W. Bobinson, Esq., Warden) J, and J. Boberts, v. Stephens and others, complaint for unlawful interference with water race at Shepherds Hut Hamilton. Damages laid at £IOO. After the hearing of the case had been commenceditwas found that the complaint had been wrongly laid, and as a compromise seemed possible the complaint was allowed to be withdrawn. Same v John Penketh, was a similar case to the preceding. Damages being kid at £2 only. This was also witfdrawn.

Gordon and others v. M'Lachlan and Gthers.- r Complaint for £4O damages oc casioned by the defendants causing taillugs to be deposited in a water race of the complainants, who are miners at Carters* Terrace, Taieri. The defendants, who wort m two separate parties of two men eaon, are sluicing at Cambridge's Dig, gings, and the tailings from their workings run into the right hand branch of the bowburn, and so find their way into complainants' race, whioh heads from that source. It was shown that last year the defendants and others sluicing there had ereoted a dam to keep back the tailings trom entering the complainants'race. The dam had been carried away, and defendants had neglected to reconstruct it. Judgment was given against M'X.achlan and Fearney for £o damages, and 4s costs, and against William and Thomas Onne for the same amount. Grants.—J.
