HAMILTON.

(From a correspondent) Mining matters here are very prosperous, everyone appearing to be doing well. I hear no grumbling about the scarcity of water, although, of course, should the dry weather continue for any time, this pleasant state of matters must come to an end. The river at Hamilton still keeps very high, so much so that a man has to have good courage to attempt erossing. Mr. Cunningham has been busy the. last week cutting a road from the Hyde, crossing round by the lake, •to get his team up with goods, which he succeeded in doing on,: Saturday night last. . I have also to state that everything ia the way of stores is getting very dear just now—no teamster being willing to risk crossing the river in its present unsettled state.' I suppose the people of Hyde, and Hamilton will have to start a subscription to get a bridge oyer the river at Hamilton, or else be starved out, as they must and will be if the present price of things continues. Just fancy, not a pound of sugar to be. got for the last week, until Saturday night, when, through the noble exertions of Mr. Cunningham, he managed to fetch up the waggon. I think it would be far better to spend the money granted by the Council for makiag a road from Hyde to here, on this new track, from the Hyde crossing to Hamilton; and I hope the people of Hamilton will exert themselves in the matter, and see it carried out. It appears to be the only course left open to them, unless prepared to leave the place for good.
