MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of the Town Council took place in the Council Chambers on Wednesday. Present: His Worship the Mayor, and Crs. Brookes, Craig, de Laiitour, and Hjorring. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE.—OUTWARD. Copy of letter-to the Secretary of the Progress Committee, Lower Kyeburn Diggings, asking local co-operation J.n improving the road-known as." Kyeburn "Diggings to Nase'by "-—.to measure and lay off what would be considered & sufficient line of road on the hill above Mr. Cain's Hotel; also on that leading to Mr. Morgan's. Copy of letter to District Engineer, requesting him to state if and when he could -lay off the main roads through the township. Copy of letter to-Harper and party, calling .immediate attention to the dangerous state of the main road occasioned by their workings.. Copy of letter to Mr. W. L. Bailey, agent for Lees and party, granting concession asked —provided the culvert is formed level with the road, and the work done to the satisfaction of -the General Purposes Committee. INWARD. Letter from Under-Secretary, in reply to Town Clerk's enclosing memorial with reference to erection of-Court House at Naseby, stating that the ■ General. Government had been requested to intrust the erection of the building to the Provincial Government. Letter from the Provincial Treasurer, stating that the' sum of £3OO had been paid into the Bank of 'New Zealand to the credit of tne Mayor and Corporation. Letter from the Secretary to his Honor the Superintendent, stating that the Bye-Laws' would be gazetted on the 12th instant, and that the charge for printing and publishing the same would be.£7 10s._ -
Letter from the District Engineer, in replyto Town Clerk's, stating that, owing to the great number of other works and surveys which he has to carry out he will be unable to'lay off the main roads; as requested. ■ . Letter from the Secretary of the Water Works Company, for permission to break the road for flushing pipes, &c. LAYING OFF MAIN ROADS. ■ It_was resolved that the Secretary for Public Works be requested to allow the main roads to be laid off by-the resident Engineer. REPORTS. The. Town Hall Committee reported the advisability of plans being at once obtained for a building suited to the requirements of the Corporation. The Committee for Public Purposes' reported that they had accepted the tender of Mr. G-. Stephens, for Fire Brigade shed, for £24 10s. 6d. TOWN HALL. A tender for bricks, at £.17 15s. per thousand, from Mr. E. T. George, was opened, but not accepted. Proposed by Cr. de'Lautoub, seconded by Cr. Brookes— " That the Committee have full power to obtain plans, at a cost not exceeding £lO, for a building in brick or concrete suited to the requirements of the Corporation." Carried. BREAKING ROAD. The permission asked for by the Secretary to the Water Works Company, to break the road for the purpose of cleaning the Company's mains, was granted. ' ACCOUNTS. Accounts were passed to the amount of £9 15s. 7d.—'Gazette' (Bye-Laws), £7 10s.; balance (sundries), £2 ss. 7d. KYEBURN ROAD. Cr. Craig proposed—" That the opening of tenders for Upper Kyeburn road be postponed until Monday night—the Committee having power to accept any tender or none." Seconded by Cr. Hjorring, and carried. Cr. Craig also proposed—"That the copy of specifications- sent in by the Lower Kyeburn Progress Committee be acknowledged with thanks, and that the Municipal Committee be empowered to call for such tenders as they may think fit.'' Seconded by Cr. Hjorring, and carried. NOTrOR of motion. , Notice of motion was given by Cr. Craig that, at next meeting of the Council, he will move—"That owners of verandahs, lampposts, or other obstructions, be notified that they will be required to move the same forthwith."
