Another Church "crisis" has been averted. For some time the question of the use of instrumental music in public worship has agitated the Irish Presbyterian Church, and, as proved by the vote taken in last year s General Assembly, the parties in favor of and against liberty to use the organ are nearly equal. In the Assembly now in session, the subject has been rediscussed with considerable animation and amid great excitement. But yesterday, by the intervention of the Moderator, temporary agreement has been secured. The Assembly have resolved, out of regard for the rights of conscience and peace, to abstain from passing any law on the subject, to abstain from the use of instrumental music in the sanctuary, and to devote increased attention to the inrprovement ol church psalmody-., " How long did Adam remain in Paradise before he sinned P" said an amiable spouse to her husband. "Tilbhe got a wne, was the calm reply. At a trial the other day a quotation was made by the counsel for the prisoner trom Steel's Criminal Law. Opposing counsel said, "Steel should be an cmtliority on theft." "Prisoner, you are charged with habitual drunkenness. What have you to oiler m excuse for your offence ?" " Nothing your honour, except habitual thirst." A letter addressed to "The Devil" is lying in the post office at Lafayette, Inch, and the postmaster thinks he'll have to send iUo Washington.
