MINFRS' ASSOCIATION.
The usual monthly meeting of Miners' Committee was held;on Fri- . day evening last, at the Temperance Hall. Mr. Hi 8.. MTntosh ja the chair. The minutes of the fas£" meeting, were 1 read and confirmed. ' --- Outward (read) : Copy of letter to* the ba- k agents, requesting the answer promised to the deputation'in re-' ference to the alteration of time now fixed for closing the banks on Satur~ days, and urging again the desirability of resorting to the old time, in orderto suit the public requirements. Inward (read and received) : Letterfrom the Under Secretary, informing the Committee that the expenditure of £8 13s. 4d., in connection with the . boring rods, had been sanctioned "by the G-overnmenf, and that the extra' rods required would be forwarded" aa soon as possible., A letter from the bank agents, staffing that, owing to the difficulty of cleaning this district's gold by artificial light, chey are reluctantly compelled to purchase by daylight. < A letter from Mr. Kyeburn, enclosing account for reporting upon boring appa^^^^^f THE BORING BODS. The Chairman then called | tention of the Committee to portant charge now placed in hands, namely, the Government apparatus, which \yas expected few days to be in complete order. The Secretary had jus« informed the Committee that he had been''able, in" a.-'short''"-time, to raise from, the principal business ineii in'ifoe towna guarantee fund amounting "to £.30, with a hearty promise of more'lf required. This, lie thought, was con-, vincing proof of their earnestness in the matter,-)and sufficient to dispel the illusion of two interests antagonistic existing in thetown- -The prospecting, in his opinion, should not be coDj_ fined to gold alone, but also which,,it is confidently believed, can, be found within two miles of this town., No doubt great, interest f will evinced during the progress of "sie work, and he. trusted the result, at these experiments would prove a pepmanent benefit to the districts In con-, elusion, he,said that of course it would be the duty of the Committee to do &\i in their power to carry out the work., required to be done as economically , and efficiently as possible. .;: f . The Secretary reported that'he :had . made application to the Provincial ' Government for a portion of the vote of. £6OO (set down for prospecting) in aid of the funds required, and had been informed that a reply cannot be given ' until the Government have hag the expenditure of the vote under conside-
