SALE OF ST. BATHANS TOWNSHIP.
{.To the Editor of the Mount Ida ChbonicljE.) Sib, —In your last issue, under the above Heading, appeared a letter signed ?-;gjr "One Who Knows." If " One Who ./Knows" had confined himself to truths, .■and not to hearsay and reports of others, He would stand higher in the estimation of your readers. I daresay he thinks he is correct in the statements he made. -"One Who Knows," not having practical experience, is not competent to say what is " payably auriferous." Now, Mr. Editor, in the early days of St. Bathans, workings were carried on under the buildings that now occupy the ":\ eastern side of the street, and the Last Push Company, some two or three years ..ago, worked the ground parallel with the Btreet (as close as they dared to do) for a - long distance, with payable results ; and -.'; at the time the Scandinavian Company purchased the rights of the Last Push Company, they—the Last Push Company —were actually engaged at work, with a view of moving the street —so as to be able to work the ground that the street occupied. " One Who Knows," is dissatisfied with . .the St. Bathans Miners' Association, be- ,' cause that body lodged an objection (as in ' duty bound) to the sale of auriferous land. ",\ "One Who Knows " stated the Miners -Association was not the voice of the :jH , miners, but of three gentlemen of identi- .' cal interests, and two men who work for 'them. You are aware, Mr. Editor, that ••; a notice some time ago appeared in your ? ; y * Chronicle,' convening a public meeting ,' to take into consideration the forming of ! a Miners' Association at St. Bathans. 'That notice was signed by the Chairman of the St. Bathans Progress Committee. : ? Of course Miners' Associations were ",'.;, eyery thing that was good until the three v .gentlemen of identical interests, and the :■: two men who work for them, (which is not I,'.i 'the case) had the confidence of.the public I ■>><■> by,whom they were elected to represent >*. :' u lthieir- interests, Now, sir, I think the
Miners' Associations ~vrould-be neglecting their duty iffthey did not object to the sale ol auriferous land, even, if such objections, are to the fancied injury of wouldbe freeholders..—lam, &c, A LOVEE OF TIfcUTH.
