HAMILTON.

(From a correspondent.) Seeing that the Hamilton correspondent is silent, I take, up my pen to let you know what is doing here. The claims, on-account of the changeableness of the weather,- are one day at work, and the next locked up."by frost. The Cornish : men have too started for the season, and are likely to have a good supply of water. The Perseverance Co: have got their tail race completed after six months hard labor, although the" bursting of their dam has been a great drawback to them. Still theyhave persevered, and are likely to do well, as they have some of the richest ground in Hamilton to start with. The principal diggings are at a place called the Shepherd's Hut, and these two Co.'s, the Perseverance, have the most of the"ground takeniup ; at all events, no one else can work it o'h account of scarcity of water. Bailey and party are doing well, they have not washed up for the last year, but the gold is there. lam informed that there is brie main, a hatter, here that is making £lO a week in a claim adjoining the Perseverance Co., so that speaks well for them. The latter Co. gave a ball and dinner after finishing their tail race. It was a great success, and every one enjoyed themselves—of the usual speeches after dinner, and toasts drunk. Mr Bailey presided, and the meeting broke up at an early hour next morning. I very ■ nearly forgot Howell and party are doing very well tunneling, the gold getting better as they go into the terrace.

The scarcity of water is a great drawback tj this place. I hope to send you; a fuller account in ray next.
