REWARDS FOR DISCOVERY OF NEW GOLDFIELDS.
Acting on a resolution of the Assembly last-session, the executive have agreed to the following conditions under which rewards will be given for the* discovery of new G-oldfields, from the date hereof till the 31st of December, 1874: • Ist. That the person be deemed a discoverer who shall first find gold, and notify the same in writing, to a Superintendent- of a Province, or, to the Chairman of the County of Westland, or to the nearest Warden orEesident Magistrate, In such notification the discoverer shall state as nearly as practicable, the exact locality and distance from the nearest gold workings or nearest town. 2nd. If two or more persons simultaneously discover gold in the same locality, or in places immediately adjacent, and each severally comply with the conditions above mentioned, the sum proper to be awarded will be divided amongst the several persons who have discovered the Groldlield, in such manner as shall be determined, after due investigation by the
Secretary for" Grown Lands" or pointee. 3rd. [Rewards will only be given for discoveries made public/subsequently to the publication of tins notice. Condition applicable to tlie North. Island•— " {a) A newly discovered G-oldfield must be distant at least thirty miles from the nearest gold workings. (&) A reward of £SOOO will be given for the first Jiewly discovered G-oldfield thaiyields 25,0000z5, between the date hereof and the 31st December, 1874. Should the yield not amount to 25,0000z5, the reward will be reduced according to the following graduated scale £4OOO "if the field yield 20,0000zs before the 31sfcDecember, 1874; £3OOO if the field yield 15,0000zs before the 31st December, 1874; £2OOO if the field yield 10,001) ozs before the 31st December, 1874; £IOOO if the field yield SOOOozs before the 31st of December, 1874. (c) No prospecting■> to be allowed on native lands without the consent of the native owners previously ■ obtained, and the approval of the Native Minister. {d) Prospectors going on native lands without the consent of the" owners are liable to tHe penalties imposed by the Acts relating to the G-oldfields, and will forfeit all claim to reward. (e) IN ative owners will be entitled toi rewards, provided that, if the discovery be made on their own lan d> they enter; into arrangement with the G-overnment for throwing such land open for mining! purposes to the public. Conditions applicable to the Middle Is- : land : ' (a)_ A newly discovered G-oldfield must; be- distant at least ten miles from the nearest gold workings. (b) No reward shall exceed £2OOO. (c) Rewards hot exceeding in the whole £SOOO will be given in accordance with the following scale : —£2ooo if the I field, yields 20,0000zs before the 31st December, 1874 ; £IOOO if the field yields 10,OOOozs before.the 31st December, 1874. 4th The words " nearest _ gold-work-ings " shall mean gold workings on which i the miners are actually employed search-1 ing for gold. - j
