The following notices of motion and questions, having reference to matters of interest to the district, are culled from i tlie. Order Paper : : — I The Secretary for Goldfields and Works to | move—' That an Address be presented to I his Honor the Superintendent, recommending that all that parcel of land in the Province of Otago, in the Colony of New, Zealand, containing by admeasurement 26 poles, more or less, situate in the township . of ISTaseby, being section numbered ]B,, block I 11., on the map of the said town: bounded towards the north-west by Crown lands, 57 links; towards the north-east by sectionnumbered 13, 156 links; towards the south-; east by Derwent-street, i 33 link's; and towards the south-west by section numbered 12,- 194 links, be set apart as a site for an Athenfeum." Mr Sumpter to move— " That an Address be presented to liis Honor the Superintendent, requesting that his Honor will be pleased to place on the Estimates a sufficient sum to repurchase from the Hon. K. Campbell the land in the Maerewhenua district just disposed of to that gentlemen." ' Mr de Lautour to move—" That, in accordance with the expressed consent of the Government, 500 acres of land be set' apart as an endowment for the Naseby Athenteum, to, be selected by the Government ." JMr Sumpter to move— 4 ' That the Select Committee to be appointed to consider'the application of the Hon. R. Campbell consist of the Hon. Major Pdchardson, Hon. Dr.. Menzies,, Mr R. Mr Stout, Mr.' M_ Kenzie, Mr de Xjautour, and the mover, with power to call for persons and papers." > 4 Mri Lautour to*move—" That,, in the this Council, it is desirable that immediate efforos be made to ascertain scientifically the mineral wealth of the Provincial Goldfields, arid that, as a step in this direction, a respectful Address be presented to his Honor the Supermtendeht, requesting him to place a sum of money on the Eestimates/ 1 to be & fund in his opinion sufficient to' de'fray the necessary prospecting expenses incurred under the authority of the Government Geologist,' Dr. Hector, in thoroughly testing the deep leads and quartz reefs of the Province." Mr de Lautour to move—" That, in the opinion of this Council, it is desirable that a respectful Address be presented to his Honor

Mr Oliver, to move—" That, in the opinion of this Council,: it is very, desirable .that the geological survey of the Province, which waa begun by Dr Hector, should be. completed, and that the Government be requested to.ob--tain, as soon as possible, the services of a competent geologist for -that purpose." - • ? Mr Hazlett to move—" That a Select Committee, consisting of Messrs Davie, Hallenstein, Ireland, J. C. and the mover,, be appointed to report the advisability of,T with the .least possible delay, extending th e railway; from- Tuapeka to Roxburgh, Alexandra, Clyde, and Cromi well. The Committee to have power to call for persons and papers, and to report within threedays." ■ Mr- Stout tomove—"That this Council is of opinion that ;the Executive is deserving of the gravest , censure for not officially transmitting to the fWaste Lands Board the ; resolution of the .Council recommending the postponement of , the .consideration of the sale: of land, in the;'Maerewhenua district, rf; applied for by the Hon. Robert Campbell, ; and for not urging and advising, through the leader of the .Executive, who is,.ex officio, amember of the said Board, the postponement of the consideration of the said sale as recommended by the Council." - ; Mr Stout to move— " 1 st.. -That a Commit* j tee, consisting of the Hon. Dr.Menzies, Hon. ! Major Richardson, Mr G. F. C. Browne, /Mr I Luinsden, Mr Driver, Mr E. Clarke, and the mover, be. appointed to inquire into and report, upon all questions relating tp the management and disposal of the Waste Lands of the Crown in this Province that may be referred to it. 2nd. That it be referred to such Committee to consider whether it is possible and desirable to provide for the profitable occupation , of the Waste ; Lands' by leasing instead of selling them." ■Mr M' Dermid to move—'' That a Printing Committee be appointed, consisting of Mr Speaker (with his consent), Mr' Stout, Mr Hazlett, Mr de Lautour, Mr Fish, Mr Daniel, and the mover." The Secretary for Goldfields arid Works to move—" That a Private Petitions Committee be appointed, consisting of Mr Speaker (with his consent), Mr R. Clarke, Mr G. F. C. Browne, Hon. Dr Menzies, Mr Oliver, Mr J. C. Brown,-and the mover." " The Secretary for Goldfields and Works to move—" That a Goldfields Committee be appointed, consisting of Mr M'Kellar, Mr Ireland, Mr G. F. C. Browne, Mr R. Clarke, 'Mr J. C. Brown, Mr Oliver, and the mover." The Provincial Secretary to move—" That a Standing Orders Committee be appointed, consisting of Mr Speaker; (with his consent), Hon. Mr Reynolds, Hon. Maj or Richardson, Mr Haggitt,=Mr'-Reid, arid the mover.". ; «■• Mr Mackenzie ; to ast' the .Government—"What steps they intend to take to ; .carry out the motion passed by this Council; on the 2nd instant;. with reference to -the -Main North -Road -and the Northern Interior Road?"
