HAMILTON.
June 25, 1873. A large and influential meeting of the residents of Hamilton and Sowburn was held at Barber's Union Hotel, to consider the necessity for a*bridge over the Taieri River. Mr Shannon, who was voted to the chair, briefly, explained the object of the meeting; after which, a letter from Capt. Hamilton, expressing his hearty concurrence in the movement,, was put.in and read. , : ' ....'.-'=_' It was proposed by Mr Booth—-"That this meeting, viewing the sadly neglected and unsatisfactory state of affairs in this part of the' Mount Ida district, deem it necessary that steps should be immediately taken to invoice Government aid, in order to relieve ourselves from the disadvantages we labor under." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr Booth, and seconded by Mr Cunningham—"With a view, to further the above object, we are of opinion that a Committee, to be called the Hamilton and Sowburn Progress Committee, should be formed, and authorised by this meeting to take such action as may be best calculated to further the interest of the community—the subject demanding their more immediate attention being the construction of a bridge over the Taieri River." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr Nicholas, seconded by Mr Rosevere —" That the Committee about to be formed place themselves in communication with the Corporation of Naseby —their interests being, in a great measure, identical with ours." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr Treby and seconded—- " That a Committee of twelve, with power to add to their number, be elected by this meeting —five to form a quorum." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr Booth and seconded—- " That this meeting guarantees to defray the expenses the Committee may incur in stationery, printing, &c." Carried unanimously. The following gentlemen were then, elected to act as a Committee:—Captain Hamilton, Messrs Cunningham, Brown, Booth, Foster, Nicholas, Hall,, liaidman, Treby, Herlihy, Rosevere, J. Nieholls, JShrieck, Simpson, Bailey, A.. Barber, Grady, and Shannon; and Messrs Duffyi O'Neill, and Laverty, of Hyde. A meeting of the Committee was appointed for the following evening, for the despatch of business. The meeting terminated with votes of thanks to the chair, and to Mrs Barber for her readiness in placing a room at the dis posal of the Qovimittee.~Com?numcated.
