MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Naseby Town Council was beld on- Tuesday last. Present His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Brookes, Busch, Brown, and Wilson. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. COEEESPONDENCE. A letter was read from the assessors (Messrs Gason and Macdonald). Keferred to the Finance Committee. A letter was read from the' Town Clerk, suggesting that his salary should be increased. Eesolved, that a bonus of £lO be granted. TENDEBS. - Tenders were opened for work in Tay. street, and that of Mr W. J. Millar was accepted. BYE-LAWS. The Bye-Laws, having been read, were ordered to be condensed and published in accordance with the Act. SIGNING OE CHEQUES. It was. resolved that all cheques be signed in accordance with clause 93 of the Municipal Ordinance. ■■•'•.; TOWN -HAIiTi SITE; The motion by Cr Bkookes—-" That the Finance Committee take the necessary steps to complete the purchase of the site in Leven-street, recommended by the Town Hall Committee "—.was
the occasion of a considerable amount of acrimonious discussion. It was ultimately agreed to postpone the discussion on this matter until next day (Wednesday), the Mayor being of opinion that a full Council only could deal satisfactorily with the question. - - On Wednesday—there being piesent his Worship the Mayor,. arid, Crs Busch, Brookes, Brown, Hore, and Wilson—the matter -was again brought forward, when the proposition was carried. An amendment by Or Beowf was lost. A protest against the action of the Council was lodged by Cr Bro \*k. REPAIRS TO ROADS, ETC. Proposed' by Cr Hore, seconded by Cr Wixson—" That the street between Ross's garden and'M'lntbsh's tailrace 'be put into proper repair." Carried. ■ A motion by ' Cr Busch— " That N ess-street be repaired from Leyen- j street to' Tay-street,' at" a cost not ' exceed £B," —was carried. Cr Busch. proposed feet be added to .the culvert across the footpath in 1 the" rear of Mr Brookes' fence, and to be covered with tailings." Carried. : . . - - , , . Proposed by Cr Busch—" That the cross gutter in'' Broom-street, in the rear of the '' Chronicle' office," be pitched." Carried. ' accounts. The report of the'Eiriance Committee, recommending the payment "of the following sums, \vas agreed to : —T. O'Brien, £l6 65.; Mossman, £1 155.; Morgan (freight of boring rods), £3 ; Fergusson and- Mitchell, £2l 12s. 6d. ; A, E. Livingstone, £2 Is. 6d.
